Hiya

When your pc has been cleaned up, you may want to get the following. Only install and run (if not already installed) when I've looked at your HT Log ;)

To stop reinfection get spywareblaster from

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/downloads.html

get the hosts file from here.Unzip it to a folder!

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

put it into : or click the mvps bat and it should do it for you!

Windows XP = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Win 98\ME = C:\WINDOWS

ie-spyad.Puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htm

Spyware Terminator

http://www.spywareterminator.com/dnl/landing.aspx

In spyware terminator, click real time protection and tick the box to use
real time protection and tick all the boxes except file exceptions shield.
If your confident in using its advanced feature, click advanced and tick
the HIPS box.

If you want to install and uninstall programs it is best to
temporarily disable Spyware terminator and then re-enable it after you
have installed or uninstalled a program as it will create a lot of pop ups asking you do you wish this to happen!

Right click spyware terminator on the bottom right of your status bar and
choose exit. Then tick the box and that is spyware terminator disabled!

Arovaxshield Protect against hijackers etc!

http://www.arovax.com/products/arovaxsh ... nload.html

Use spybot's immunize button and use spywareblaster' enable
protection once you update it. you can put spybot's hosts file into
your own and lock it.

-----------------

If your Java is out of date (will say so looking at your logs), do the following:

Java Version 6 is now available. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

NEW

Control Panel | Internet Options. General tab. Under Delete Files, delete offline content.

Then, Advanced tab, scroll down to Security, and tick the option Empty Tempory Internet Files...Apply and OK.

Now, in case you're wondering 'Am I going to lose by bookmarks, etc', No, you're not.

What happens is when you visit a website, say Aliens forum, every little picture, tag, line, etc are kept. Its for the olden days when you use to want to view websites offline, as we had to pay dialup connections.

So, in my Reply, I can see the smilies on the left, eg:

8)

So, in this page, they're all saved to my harddrive. Never duplicates, so if you only visit a few sites, that's all you'll have.

However, over time, as you visit more and more sites (I go all over the place as techie support), you build this up more and more. It can even go into the 'Over 10,000 files' part. Trust me, I've been to people pc's, and sit there for a while removing them.

Doing the option above, where you tick that little entry, means that as soon as you close your last Internet Explorer window down, they all get deleted. Cookies stay, so your passwords are safe

Can't believe Microsoft don't enable this as Default

Other's to follow.....

Hi mate

Hopefully you've found the later version, as the earlier versions gave false positives, meaning they can cause more harm than good. This is an excellent site to bookmark:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Instead of sifting thru it all, just press Ctrl-F to find the name you're looking for.

This is the latest HijackThis, for anyone that wants it checking:

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Again, post in a new thread below :)

You posted in the wrong place, meant a new thread

Anyway, I'll reply here in a bit, and see if Heckles can create a new thread for you. If not, I'll reply on this one, but others create a new one
