Hi mate

You're missing some off the top of the log. Should start with something like this:

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 17:39:04, on 15/03/2008
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)
Boot mode: Normal

Running processes:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe

etc

If you can post it again, that would be great :)

Okay, there is only one entry to remove.

Re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes of all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot and post a fresh log.

Also, I send you a txt asking if its Wireless. It is, I see. Do you ever get the magazine PCFormat?

Anyway, we'll also trim the startup list, and the services.

Okay, to free up some RAM, go thru this:

http://www.aliens.se/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=762

Will do the startup list for you as well. When you've done the above, reboot and see if it makes any difference. Try our server, the Drunken Friday one, to see if the ping changes.

To be honest, I forgot this, so catching up on all computer stuff before weekend. Also, will see if I can explain the Wireless trick, to gain an extra bar 8)

The following is a list of all that you have running at startup. For those interested, its the 04 entries. The more you have, the slower your bootup to Windows will be, and you may have problems online, like slowness etc. I've put some explanation on what they are, in case you're curious.

Don't worry, you're not uninstalling these, just preventing them loading at startup

----------------

RTHDCPL

Realtek HD Audio Sound Effect Manager - Up to you

JMB36X Configure

Related to JJB36x_Chip from JMicron Technology. Designed to provide two-port SATA II and one-port PATA connectivity - Up to you

Launch LGDCore

Related to Logitech_G-series application Software - up to you

Symantec NetDriver Monitor

Part of Symantec's LiveUpate (eg, Norton). Not required if you run manual upadates but probably requireD if you leave them to run automatically - Up to you

Launch Ai Booster

The ASUS Ai_Booster is an application that allows you to overclock the CPU either manually or automatically without the hassle of entering the BIOS Setup - Up to you

SunJavaUpdateSched

Checks with Sun's Java updates site to see if newer Java versions are available. Visit http://java.sun.com or just run the Java Plug-In Control Panel - Not needed

NeroFilterCheck

Associated with "Nero Burning Rom" CD writing software. Checks for driver issues - Up to you

BluetoothAuthenticationAgent

Associated with BlueTooth software, designed to allow bluetooth mobile devices to authenticate to the computer, when connecting a PDA to your computer - necessary for the computer and the PDA to communicate - Up to you

QuickTime Task

System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" viewer from version 5 onwards - Not needed

iTunesHelper

Installed with Apple's iTunes for Windows. Uses ~3-4MB of memory and if disabled in MSCONFIG or deleted from the registry it will re-instate itself after running iTunes a few times - keep

razer

Related to Razer diamondback mouse driver its offers task bar changes for buttons / movements - Keep

AVG7_CC

AVG Anti-Virus 7.0 Control Center. Allows you to manage and control all AVG Anti-Virus components, settings and updates - Keep

StartCCC

Puts the ATI Catalystâ„¢ Control Center Icon/Shortcut on the System Tray - available via Start -> Programs - Not needed

Wireless Manager

Keep

SUPERAntiSpyware

Related to SUPER_Anti_Spyware from SuperAdBlocker. Stop pop-ups and annoying ads - keep, but I tend to turn this off when gaming

ctfmon.exe

CTFMon is involved with the language/alternative input services in Office XP. CTFMON.exe will continue to put itself back into MSConfig when you run the Office XP apps as long as the Text Services and Speech applets in the Control Panel are enabled. Not required if you don't need these features.

CTFMON can be disabled from Control Panel, Text & Speech Services

For more info on ctfmon

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282599/en-us

MsnMsgr

MSN Messenger utility. If you don't use MSN Messenger, this can be annoying. Available via Start -> Programs. Go to MS Messenger > Tools > Options > Preferences and uncheck "Run this program when Windows starts" - not needed

Steam

Valve Software's STEAM broadband game client. Steam is Valve's new way of getting games into your hands ASAP. Games like Half-Life, Counter-Strike, and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero are all being made available through Steam. Steam games are automatically kept up-to-date with the latest content and revisions. Steam also includes an instant-message client which even works while you're in-game. Can be started mnaually. - not needed

AVG7_Run

Part of AVG Anti-Virus 7.0 - keep

---------------

Okay, for the one's that say Not Needed, do this:

Go to Start | Run and type MSCONFIG, and click OK. Startup tab. Untick the ones that are Not Needed, Apply and Restart. When Windows loads back up, you will have a popup box saying that the startup has been changed. Tick the little box to not appear again, and OK.

For the Up To You ones, that's exactly that. Its your choice if you need them. One way to do this, is after you've done the above with the Not Needed, is to go back to MSCONFIG, and untick one of them. Reboot, and see if all your 'normal' programs work okay. If, for instance your Nero Burning Rom has a problem after unticking NeroFilterCheck, then just go back in, retick it, and restart.

Last.fm Helper.lnk = C:\Program Files\Last.fm\LastFMHelper.exe

Looking here, its a rescource hogger:

http://www.last.fm/forum/34905/_/309840

Could be the reason. If you don't use that anymore, uninstall last.fm in AddRemove.

Hi mate

Can you tell me which wireless router you're using, connection and version type. Its just someone else is having problems, but they're on BT.

Also, did you go thru the processes? If there are any that you can't find on the list, let me know.

Researching that other file now, but if you don't use uninstall last.fm, just uninstall it. Eitehr way, let me know, and I'll see if we can speed it up for you still :)
